Content: How to Change the World When and Elections and Protests Fail with Sasha Davis. In the current political atmosphere of cruelty, repression and irrationality, many have pleaded for the urgent development of social movements to counter the rampage of the federal government and their oligarch allies. But what should these movement look like? And how should we build them? Imagining just such a grassroots movement is the goal of a new book from Sasha Davis. Replace the State: How to Change the World When and Elections and Protests Fail combines political strategy, stories of successful organizing, and practical 'how-to' advice for movement builders. Part book talk, part telling stories of hopeful action, part participatory discussion, and part opportunity to connect to build a movement – the goal of this event is to help us imagine not just how we can resist what is happening, but how we can create organizations to build something better. Sasha Davis is an activist and professor at Keene State College in New Hampshire. His previous books examine activism and environmental politics in colonial contexts while his latest book, Replace the State, takes the lessons of those social movements and applies them to current grassroots organizing in North America.
