Rally in front of the offices of Senators Duckworth and Durbin

Senators Duckworth and Durbin voted in favor of a War Powers Resolution (WPR) saying the war on Iran is illegal and unauthorized. We applaud that vote. Now we demand that they take further concrete action. Every day that the war on Iran continues, the greater the likelihood that it will become the next “forever war.”

After the mid-term election, the Senate will also be negotiating the NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act) - see additional demands below.

Congressional Demands
The war against Iran is unauthorized, devastating, and dangerous. Congress has both the constitutional authority and the responsibility to stop it. We are calling on every member of Congress to take the following actions:
I. Cut off funding for the war
Pledge to oppose any defense appropriation or authorization that does not end U.S. participation in the war against Iran. Congress must use the power of the purse to stop an unauthorized war that has cost civilian lives, put U.S. service members at risk, damaged civilian infrastructure, and deepened economic hardship in the United States and around the world.
II. Enforce the Iran War Powers Resolutions
Release a statement affirming that the Iran War Powers Resolutions are legally binding, and support future war-powers measures. The Constitution gives Congress—not any one president—the authority to initiate war. Members of Congress must use their positions to enforce the direction already given to terminate unauthorized hostilities.
III. Demand accountability for the Minab Elementary School bombing
Publicly call for the full release of the Department of Defense investigation into the U.S. bombing of Minab Elementary School, which reportedly killed 120 children as well as teachers and staff AND investigate the bombing of the civilian wedding party in Kuhestak . The public deserves a full accounting, and the victims’ families deserve truth and accountability.
IV. Support diplomacy, sanctions relief, and a peace agreement to End the War!
Publicly call for and support a peace agreement that includes lifting sanctions and unfreezing assets. Economic relief is essential to diplomacy, verifiable nuclear concessions, and lasting de-escalation. U.S. policy must not intensify humanitarian harm or undermine the possibility of peace.
In addition, we demand that Senators Duckworth and Durbin
Vote to strip Section 1217 out of the Senate version of the NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act) which would establish a new U.S. Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative aimed at accelerating joint research, development, and integration of Israeli origin and jointly developed defense technologies into U.S. military systems and programs of record.
