Content: On July 28th, the five-month anniversary of the US-Israeli war on Iran, people from about a dozen organizations gathered in front of Trump Tower to protest the war plus the continuing Israeli assault on the West Bank, Gaza and Lebanon. Commander Christopher Bielfeldt insisted on enforcing the CPD's unconstitutional ban on protests in front of the Tower by arresting one of the organizers, Andy Thayer, on two bogus misdemeanor counts. Please observe normal courtroom decorum – no signs or message t-shirts inside the courtroom, and no talking or other disruptions during court proceedings. Afterwards and outside, Andy and/or his attorney will make remarks about the proceedings.
While the seriousness of the charges pale by comparison to those faced by many others – ICE detainees, Minnesota 15, Michigan 8, and Prairieland arrestees, and others – their affront to the 1st Amendment right to protest cannot go unanswered.
We invite you to attend Andy's court date at 9 am, Tuesday, August 18 at 5555 W. Grand Avenue, Chicago. We will gather in front of the courthouse at 8:30 am and go inside shortly before 9 am.
