Artists and Advocates Convene Cultural Event to Raise Money For Venezuelan Earthquake Relief - A benefit for the Venezuelan Red Cross.

An ad-hoc volunteer collective of local arts presenters and advocates has come together to raise funds for the Venezulan earthquake relief. This group has curated a powerful event featuring cultural voices from across the community. All proceeds will support the local rescue and redevelopment efforts in Caracas-La Guaira resulting from this months devastating double earthquakes.

The event will take place in the Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center.

Participating artists confirmed to date are:

Richard Peña’s Equilibrio, La Cantera, Band Los Buen Dia, Chicago Samba, Fuego de Cumbia, Tamanaco Tambor and the Cepillao’ Band

The organizers bring together this international chorus of voices to express solidarity with people in Venezuela who are hard hit by natural disasters and external involvement in sovereign affairs.



The reports made on June 24 provided this relevant data:

1,430 deaths
3,232 injured treated
430 aftershocks so far
3,142 affected families
More than 5,000 hospital visits
7,500 triage areas
More than 12,000 medical consultations
73,736 families served
7.2 million kg of food distributed
16,145 bags of food distributed to the people of La Guaira state

The National Assembly noted that the area most affected by the disaster is La Guaira state, where the armed forces are conducting search and rescue operations.

During the event, speakers will provide information on how you can help and a literature table will include educational info and other useful resources.

The organizers of the concert and the artists have donated their labor to create this event. The money raised will directly support the beneficiaries. The event is ticketed with a minimum suggested donation of $25 but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

A second tier ticket at $40 will include a dinner option.

The event is open to all ages with parental supervision.

ABOUT THE EVENT ORGANIZERS

A broad array of community based NGO’s, solidarity organizations, religious congregations, peace activists and others, are joining the organizers and supporting this event with outreach and volunteer efforts.

The ad-hoc volunteer committee organizing this event are:

Marguerite Horberg, Jaime Garza, Omar Torres-Kortright, Ramon Marino, Luis Jahn, Moacyr Marcini, Norma Nuñez-Ruch and Adriana Black.

This group represents many seasoned cultural workers who have enjoyed collaborating on building community-based projects over the years.
