Content:

Join us for a screening and discussion of the 2006 film ‘Walkout.’ This powerful film tells the story of the 1968 East Los Angeles student walkouts, when thousands of Chicano students organized mass walkouts to protest racism, discrimination, and unequal education in their schools.

Facing punishment for speaking Spanish and dropout rates as high as 60%, these students took a stand and sparked a movement for educational justice that helped ignite the broader Chicano civil rights struggle.

🍿 Popcorn, snacks, and drinks will be available!

After the film, we will discuss the legacy of the East L.A. Blowouts and what they teach us about the power of student organizing. At a time when students across the U.S. are once again walking out and speaking out against injustice, this history reminds us that young people have always been at the forefront of movements for change!
