Content: Join us for a screening of ‘Is This The Promised Land?’, which tells the story of the 1966 Chicago Freedom Movement and the historic fight to desegregate the city. 🍕 Free food available for attendees! ✊🏾 In the 1960s, the Chicago Freedom Movement reshaped the city as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his family settled in Lawndale to demand fair housing and civil rights in the North. ‘Is This the Promised Land?’ was produced by young people in North Lawndale in 1992 and revisits this historic movement, tracing the struggle to desegregate Chicago and the courage of those who pushed for change. Join us for a screening that honors the past, uplifts youth voices, and keeps the movement’s legacy alive!
