Content: On October 9, 2025, The Committee for a Just Peace in Palestine/Israel is hosting Art as Resistance, a showcase and fundraiser celebrating the power of art as a force for protest, liberation and survival. Join us for an evening of poetry, music, dramatic readings, and visual art that amplifies voices speaking truth to power and hands that create in the face of destruction. It will be held from 6-9pm at a large, centrally located, Oak Park venue, which we will reveal closer to the date of the event. This fundraiser will donate directly to grassroots groups on the ground that are providing vital aid to people in crisis right now - Watermelon Sisters - providing life saving food in Gaza, Palenque - delivering services to immigrants under attack in Chicago, and Oak Park's own PFLAG - serving our gay, lesbian, and trans neighbors and family members. 6 pm - 7 pm Registration - Visual Art Gallery. Enjoy appetizers and cash bar. 7:15 pm - 8:30 pm Speakers / Spoken Word / Poetry / Music / Dance. Enjoy appetizers and cash bar. 8:30 pm - 9 pm Songs for Liberation / Visual Art Gallery. Enjoy cash bar. We are living through extraordinarily difficult times. October marks two years since the start of the devastating, U.S.-funded onslaught on Gaza — described by Israel’s own human rights groups as a genocide. At home, we’re seeing increasing threats to our civil and human rights, including ICE raids that resemble abductions and deny due process, the future of same-sex marriage now before the U.S. Supreme Court, and over 120 anti-trans bills passed this year alone. At this moment, we believe that art is more than expression — it is how people communicate truths that words alone cannot carry. It gives voice to the unheard, shape to the unseen, and connection where silence might otherwise divide us. We would be honored by your presence. You can purchase tickets at the link below or donate if you cannot attend. Questions?
